Guide
TL;DR
Glass can be a good choice for a toy when it is the right kind of glass and the piece is in good condition. Every piece we sell is borosilicate glass, made as a single solid piece. Check your piece before every use, retire it if you find any damage, and stop if anything hurts.
When you ask if a toy is safe, you are usually asking two things. What is it made of, and can you keep it clean?
Every piece on this site is borosilicate glass. Here is what that means for you:
Non-porous. Nothing absorbs into the surface.
Easy to clean. It washes with warm water and soap. For a full routine, see our guide on how to clean glass toys.
One solid piece. There are no seams, joints or coatings that could come apart.
Works with any lube. You do not need to match your lube to the material.
Handles warm and cool water. Borosilicate resists thermal shock. So warm or cool tap water, the fridge or ice water all work.
Material is only part of the picture. The condition of the piece matters just as much, which is why the next step is a habit worth building.
Inspect your piece before every use. It only takes a moment, and it is the most useful thing you can do.
1
Find good light. Daylight or a bright lamp works well.
2
Look at the whole surface. Turn the piece slowly so you see every side.
3
Run a clean fingertip along every edge, ridge, tip and base.
4
For a closer check, pull a cotton ball or a tissue gently along the surface. If the fibers snag, there is a rough spot.
5
Look for chips, hairline cracks, rough or sharp spots, and cloudy patches.
If everything is smooth and clear, you are ready to go. If you find anything at all, set the piece aside.
After a drop. Glass is sturdy, but it is still glass. A hard drop onto tile can chip a piece even when it looks fine at first glance. If you drop a piece, give it a full inspection before you use it again. If it passes, carry on. If it does not, retire it.
A few things are worth steering clear of, with any glass toy from any seller.
Toys of unknown material. If a seller does not say what the glass is, you have no way to know what you are using.
Decorative or craft glass. It was never made for body use.
Pieces with attachments or glued parts. Anything added on is a place where the piece can fail.
A damaged piece. Even a small chip or rough spot is a reason to stop.
Extreme temperature swings. Borosilicate handles warm or cool tap water, the fridge and ice water. Skip the freezer, microwave and boiling water, and go gradually.
For anal use. Any piece used for anal play needs a flared base or a handle so it cannot slip in too far. This is a general safety principle for any toy, not just glass. Bases differ from piece to piece, so check the photos and measurements on each product page before you choose.
Here is an honest limit of glass. It is rigid and does not flex or give. That makes size the main choice you make.
Choose a size you are comfortable with, not one you hope to work up to. Read the measurements on the product page and take your time deciding. If you are new to glass, start with the pieces tagged Beginner. Go slowly, and use lube.
If you have other questions about materials, care or ordering, our FAQ covers many of them.
There are two clear signals to stop.
The piece is damaged. Any chip, crack, rough spot or sharp edge means it is time to retire the piece. Do not try to sand, polish or repair it. A fix you make at home will not restore a smooth, solid surface. Let it go and replace it.
Something hurts. Stop. Your comfort matters more than finishing. If pain, bleeding or discomfort continues, talk to a doctor.
If a piece arrives damaged. All sales are final, but damaged, defective or wrong items are replaced or refunded at no cost if you report them within 5 days of delivery. Email orders@bgcommerce.net with your order number, photos of the piece, a photo of the shipping box with the label showing, and photos of any damage to the box. Opened or used items cannot be returned. You can read the full details in our returns policy.
Q: Can glass sex toys break?
A: Glass can chip or crack, especially after a hard drop onto a surface like tile. That is why you check a piece before every use. If you find any damage, retire it.
Q: Are glass dildos safe for anal use?
A: For anal use, only choose a piece with a flared base or handle so it cannot slip in too far. Check the photos and measurements on each product page, and pick a size you are comfortable with. For any health concern, talk to a doctor.
Q: How do I inspect a glass sex toy for cracks?
A: In good light, turn the piece slowly and look at the whole surface. Run a clean fingertip, or a cotton ball or tissue, along every edge, ridge, tip and base. Snagging fibers point to a rough spot.
Q: Can I warm or cool a glass toy?
A: Yes. Borosilicate resists thermal shock, so warm or cool tap water, the fridge or ice water work. Skip the freezer, microwave and boiling water.
Q: Can I fix a small chip myself?
A: No. Do not sand, polish or repair a damaged piece. Retire it.
