Glass Butt Plug and Glass Dildo Sizes: How to Choose Your First Piece

TL;DR

Glass does not flex, so size is the main choice you make. Compare pieces by insertable length and widest diameter, never total length. If you are new, start at the low end of the Beginner range. Size up only when your current piece is comfortable.

Why size matters more with glass

Glass does not flex. A borosilicate glass piece is a single solid piece, and it keeps its shape.

That makes size the main decision. Shape and texture still matter, but the numbers come first.

To keep this simple, every piece in the shop is tagged Beginner or Advanced. If you are new to glass, or new to this kind of play, the Beginner tag is the place to start. You can browse those pieces in our beginner glass collection.

The three measurements to know

Product cards list the confirmed insertable length. Not every product shows every measurement. Here is what each term means.

Insertable length: the part of the piece designed to go in. This is the length to compare.

Total length: tip to the end of the base or handle. It is always longer than the insertable length. Do not use it to compare pieces.

Widest diameter: the thickest point of the piece.

For double-ended pieces, the longer end is the one counted in the table below.

A note on accuracy: the measurements are the manufacturer's, and every piece is handmade. Numbers may vary slightly from piece to piece. The listed numbers on each product page are the reference.

Size table for the whole catalog

These ranges come from the live catalog of 43 pieces: 17 tagged Beginner and 26 tagged Advanced. Each range runs from the lowest to the highest number in that group.

Notice that some ranges overlap. A few Advanced single-ended pieces are shorter than some Beginner ones. Length is only one number, so look at diameter and shape too.

Beginner sizes at a glance

If you are choosing a first piece, these are the numbers to know.

Beginner plugs: 2.2" to 2.6" (5.6 to 6.6 cm) insertable, and 1.0" to 1.4" (2.5 to 3.5 cm) at the widest point.

Beginner single-ended dildos and wands: 5.0" to 6.6" (12.7 to 16.7 cm) insertable, and 0.8" to 1.5" (1.9 to 3.8 cm) at the widest point.

Slimmest option: the slimmest beginner pieces are 0.8" (1.9 to 2.0 cm) at the widest point.

Start at the low end of the Beginner range. You can see every piece with this tag in the Beginner category.

How to use these numbers

A number on a page only tells you so much. Here is a simple way to choose and use your first piece.

1

Pick a type first: plug, single-ended dildo or wand, or double-ended.

2

Within that type, choose a piece near the low end of the Beginner range.

3

Check the product photos. With plugs, the shape matters as much as the number. Look at how the piece narrows and widens, not only its widest point.

4

For anal use, choose a piece with a flared base or handle.

5

Go slow. Use plenty of lube. Any lube works with glass. Take your time.

6

If it hurts, stop.

7

Size up only when your current piece is comfortable.

Glass can be warmed or cooled in tap water, the fridge or ice water. Afterward, wash it with soap and water.

If you have ongoing pain, or any health question, talk to a doctor.

Questions

Q: Should I compare total length or insertable length?

A: Insertable length. Total length includes the base or handle, so it is always longer and does not show how much is designed to go in.

Q: Why might my piece measure slightly differently from the page?

A: Each piece is handmade, and the measurements are the manufacturer's, so slight variation can happen. The listed numbers on the product page are the reference.

Q: How do I choose a first plug?

A: Look at insertable length, widest diameter and shape together. Start at the low end of the Beginner plug range and check the product photos. Choose a flared base.

Q: When should I size up?

A: When your current piece is comfortable. There is no set timeline. When you are ready, the Advanced collection has pieces with longer and wider ranges.

Q: Where can I find answers to other questions?

A: Our FAQ covers general questions about the shop and glass pieces.
